Firstly, having taken many photos of you and your family in the very expensive studio, I then edit the shots to make everyone look even more perfect than they already are.

I then prepare the image for the canvas printer (colours are different and need to be adjusted compared to normal photographic prints).

I then use the best canvas printer in the country who only uses 100% cotton matt canvas. This doesn't look shiny or plastic like most high street canvases. Also it's waterproof so doesn't need a laminate or varnish over it.

The inks used are guaranteed not to fade for 200 years.

The frame they mount it on is pine from a sustainable source and includes corner wedges to re-tension the canvas should it ever need it.

I then deliver you an amazing work of art that your family will love forever.

OR.... you could take a picture you've taken yourself to asda, they'll print it without any editing on to a poly/cotton 'canvas'. The finished result may look great. It may not.

Then why not share a session?

Book a session for your family and a minimum of five other families at the studio. Each family gets 20 minutes in front of the camera.
Each family chooses 2 images from their session and gets:
Two 10"x8" prints of each image (4 prints)
Two 7"x5" prints of each image (4 prints)
TOTAL of 8 prints per family.

What a busy week!

So in the last week we've had two children's birthday parties where they turned into popstars for the day.  A celebrity photoshoot followed by a session in the recording studio singing to their favourite backing tracks.

Then we've had two family portrait sessions with some great little kids and babies, I'm now frantically editing the shots for viewing as the families want them as Christmas presents for other family members!

We've also had a day full of beanbags! A local company is the biggest supplier of beanbags in the country and this was their fifth time in the studio in the last three months. Always good to have them here even if the studio does end up covered in small polystyrene balls. I guess it looks like snow so at least it's festive looking!

A new dance group also came in this week to get a portfolio done, one of the images is below.

Actor's Head Shots

During my many years spent as a theatrical producer I was always amazed at how many actors didn't have decent up to date head shots.

Bearing in mind that this is the first impression they are making to casting directors, it is an essential tool of their trade.

When I used to receive 'snaps' taken on a phone by the person in the picture I thought to myself why audition this person? They're obviously not professional!

Just as annoying was inviting someone to an audition only to realise they were at  least 10 years older than they were in the picture they had sent us.

The excuse from most actors is 'we can't afford professional head shots'. Fair enough, some studios charge a lot of money. But shop around, there are studios such as ourselves who charge realistic prices and a good head shot will get you invited to auditions. the rest is down to you!

The things we photograph.....

We get asked to photograph some interesting items, some of which we didn't even know existed until they're wheeled in to the studio!

This is a lift used by undertakers (brand new and untested!) for the safe moving of bodies and coffins.
We've just completed a huge shoot of these and the bits that go with them for the manufacturer's trade show at the Birmingham NEC.

And here's a close up of the spare parts, not easy to make wheels and rollers look attractive!

Why is my family photography so inexpensive?

I've been asked why my prices are so cheap compared to other photographers.

The reasons are simple. Firstly, unlike a well known chain of photography studios, I don't employ commissioned sales staff. I also don't employ a team of digital artists to retouch images, I do it myself. I don't pay a franchise fee and see a huge percentage of my takings going to head office.

The only thing I do the same as them is take the same style of contemporary images and put them in the same style of frame, acrylic etc.

I believe photography should be affordable to everyone and want families to come back many times over the years as they grow.

So, don't pay more than you need to, come to us for those treasured memories. You'll find we're even better value than a mobile part-timer who 'brings the studio to you', and we don't have a crinkled bed sheet for a backdrop!
